Embroidery isn't print. The design is thread sitting on top of the fabric, not soaked into it — so it lasts longer, but it asks for a little more care.
INSIDE OUT
Keeps the stitching from rubbing against the drum.
TUMBLE LOW
High heat shrinks the fabric around the stitches and puckers the design.
NEVER IRON THE DESIGN
Direct heat melts polyester thread. Press from the back instead.
STEP BY STEP
Washing

Turn it inside out
Every time. This one step does more than the other three combined.

Cold, gentle cycle
Wash with similar colors. Skip the fabric softener; it coats the thread and dulls the sheen.

Tumble dry low, or hang
Air drying is best. If you use the dryer, pull it out slightly damp.

Press from the back
If it needs it, lay the piece face down on a towel and press the inside with a cloth between the iron and the fabric.
AVOID
What not to do
×Bleach — it breaks down the thread before it touches the cotton.
×Dry cleaning — the solvents are harsh on rayon and polyester thread.
×Ironing directly over the design — polyester thread melts at a lower temperature than cotton scorches.
×Wringing out the piece — it distorts the stitch geometry and it does not come back.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If something goes wrong
A LOOSE THREAD
Do not pull it. Snip it flush with small scissors. Embroidery is locked stitch by stitch, so one loose end will not unravel the design.
PUCKERING AFTER A WASH
Usually the fabric shrinking, not the stitching moving. Steam it lightly from the back and it typically relaxes flat again.
